TONBRIDGE based architecture firm Richard Hopkinson Architects has been shortlisted for two prestigious awards in this year’s Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) awards for its design of a Broadstairs hotel.
The Yarrow forms part of East Kent College’s Broadstairs campus and was fully redeveloped to become a high quality commercial hotel while also providing a hands-on learning environment for the College’s catering and hospitality students.
Nomination for the RICS comes shortly after the recently opened hotel won several accolades at the Kent Design and Development Awards.
Principal of East Kent College Graham Razey said: “The Yarrow has been one of the College’s biggest projects so far, but it was made far easier with the work done by our architects who followed a clear brief to create something special for our students, the local community and all those who visit.
“The result has been a spectacular hotel which has already gained a superb reputation, and is delivering an exceptional experience for our students.”
The annual RICS awards showcase the achievements of the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment and are highly regarded in the industry.
They bring together the most innovative projects in the region, awarding the very best entries across eight categories. This year The Yarrow is one of the finalists in two of those categories; Commercial, and Leisure and Tourism.
Richard Hopkinson, founding director of the practice, said: “We are very proud to be part of a fantastic project making a unique difference to people and places in Kent.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony hosted at the Aegeas Bowl in Southampton on May 17.
