One of the Tunbridge Wells’ most popular butchers, Peter Speaight, has appeared in court where he denied three charges relating to food hygiene.
The 57-year-old from Lamberhurst, who operates the Chapel Place business that carries his name, pleaded not guilty to one charge of failing to comply with a hygiene improvement notice and not guilty to two other charges of failing to comply with EU provisions concerning food safety and hygiene.
He appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court where the case was adjourned until next March.
His lawyer said: “The defendant will be called to give evidence and there are two other witnesses. I also understand there is likely to be evidence from an expert.”
Last year Peter Speaight Butchers were awarded membership of the National Butchers Q Guild joining an exclusive group of 120 award-winning independent butchers across the UK. The guild’s describes the award as a ‘seal of excellence’.
