Staff at one of Britain’s oldest banks celebrated its 325th Anniversary with a nationwide baton relay encompassing all of their 15 regional offices, beginning the final leg of their journey last week at the Mount Edgcumbe pub on the Common.

More than a dozen employees arrived from the bank’s Guildford office on bicycles and a tandem, to hand over the baton to their Tunbridge Wells colleagues at around 11am on Thursday (September 14).

The handover event was attended by the bank’s CEO Peter Flavel who, along with his staff, enjoyed refreshments at the restaurant before setting off on the last leg of the relay to their Strand headquarters in London.

Coutts, which is known for being the Queen’s Banker, is the seventh oldest bank in the world and third oldest in the UK. Anniversary celebrations began on August 30th when the first relay team set off from Newcastle. They have since worked their way south on a journey that included a choppy crossing to Jersey by Sailing Boat, Dog Walking, Horseback, Kayaks and even a Helicopter whilst raising over £175,000 for charity.
