Yesterday [Tuesday, February 20] teams from civil engineering firm Bam Ritchies started ground investigations on behalf of developer Altitude, which are set to last one week.
This will precede building work for the £80million Belvedere project, which will see a boutique cinema, shops and at least 99 apartments on site.
In the 18 years since the ABC multiplex closed the site has become a much-deplored ‘grot spot’ and this is clearest sign yet that change is finally on the way.
Bam Ritchies will be completing assessments of the properties of the soil.
It’s understood that workers would be drilling down 35 metres and five metres in two different sections.
Building work on The Belvedere is likely to begin in early 2019.
