St John's design milks links with local history

The latest images of the development that will fill an empty construction site in St John’s Road were released last week.

Soon to become a retirement home, the location was formerly a milk depot, originally opened 150 years ago by dairyman John Brown.

The business was part of his mission to fulfil his promise to the surrounding community that no matter where they lived in the town, milk could be delivered to them within ten minutes.

Developers McCarthy & Stone have decided to name the new estate The Dairy in honour of the site’s history.

Their Regional Sales and Marketing Director, Julie Ward, commented: “We are delighted to announce the official name of our new Royal Tunbridge Wells development, The Dairy, which celebrates the site’s history as a vital depot for the delivery of milk to the area for many years.

“At McCarthy & Stone, we truly value the communities in which we build, and it was important for us to select a name that will connect with both Royal Tunbridge Wells residents and future homeowners.”
