WHILE some have blamed technology for weakening communities, one group of designers are hoping their app will allow neighbours to become good friends.

More than 12,500 communities nationwide are now sharing messages, posting alerts and sending invitations by phone using the application Nextdoor.

The ever-growing project partly owes its success to Tunbridge Wells-based video content agency Digitom, who have produced a series of films for it.

The short videos, created as part of a partnership, show how the app can enhance communication within small communities, including one in the Kent village Pluckley.

Nextdoor UK Country Manager Nick Lisher said: “The films Digitom delivered captured our brief perfectly, and we will almost certainly produce more as Nextdoor continues to grow.”

Tom Chown, Digitom’s founder and Creative Director, added: “Branded content is a great way of engaging with your audience.
“Everybody’s got a story to tell, and video is a strong medium to gather and share it.”
