EIGHTEEN teams from Under-13s to Under-18s took part in the Kent Girls Sevens Tournament at Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club.
The event, now in its second year, showcases the burgeoning talent of young female players across the county. It is held on the second day of the Whiting & Hammond Sevens weekend at the club.
Westcombe Park won the Under-13 Plate and the A21s – a mixture of players from Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells – were the Under-15 winners.
A mixed side of Old Alleynians and Beccehamians were close winners in the Under-18 final against Tunbridge Wells, winning 26-24.
Bruce Elliott of Tunbridge Wells RFC said: ‘From those only just starting their rugby journey for the Under-13s through to those girls playing their last matches before progressing to senior rugby, it was a great display of sporting ability from start to finish.’
He added: ‘It’s also worth noting the number of girls shouting support from the sidelines to players they knew from other teams. It was a wonderfully positive and supportive atmosphere all day.’
