Tonbridge Angels 3 Billericay Town 2
The recovery will help to boost their confidence after a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Hungerford Town in midweek.
Despite a bright start as the Angels used the width of the pitch well, it was Billericay who took the lead in the seventh minute.
Femi Akinwande cut in from the right wing, made space and fired his shot past Jonny Henly for a fine individual goal.
The visitors extended their lead when Odysseus Alfa was not closed down and unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard shot that flew into the top right-hand corner of the goal.
By now it was all Billericay, who forced Henly into making a series of fine saves. But the game was turned on its head in the second period.
On 49 minutes Khale Da Costa’s free kick seemed to deceive the Billericay defence and went straight into the visitors’ goal.
Tonbridge were on the way back, and just two minutes later a Ben Greenhalgh Cross was converted by Tom Derry for the equaliser.
On 67 minutes the home side went ahead when Joe Turner’s cross from the left was fired in by Da Costa for his second goal.
Chances fell to both sides in the remaining quarter of the match but Tonbridge held on to secure the three points.
Manager Steve McKimm said : “After Tuesday evening’s disappointing second half performance my players knew what was expected of them and they certainly delivered.”
McKimm had gone straight over to the away supporters after the final whistle at Hungerford and apologised for the substandard performance.
The only goal of the game came on the hour as the Angels defence failed to deal with a cross, allowing the unmarked Marcus Johnson-Schuster to score.
Midfielder Tommie Hession-Harris has decided to leave the Angels because of the demands of travelling. He joined in the summer and made 15 appearances, scoring four goals.
Tonbridge now take a break from league action to play Hampton & Richmond in the FA Trophy first round on Saturday [December 14, kick-off 3pm].
