Charlie Bond visits Hattusa, the new Turkish restaurant on Camden Road to see why this popular eatery has become a foodie favourite
A year ago, I lamented the lack of Turkish restaurants in Tunbridge Wells, but now we’re spoiled for choice. Hattusa is the latest to appear in the town, and with a branch already in Sevenoaks, it had a strong following before it opened its doors in January.
The cosy eatery is an Instagrammer’s dream – from the blue patterned tiles to the whitewashed walls if you didn’t look outside at the weather (seriously, what is going ON with this “spring”?), you could easily be in Turkey.
We had:
There’s so much choice so we do deliberate for quite some time, but in the end we share a cold meze platter (£13.95) which is a mix of some of the classic favourites including hummus and dolma. On the plate it looks beautiful with vibrant colours, and it tastes pretty good too – very fresh and full of flavour.
For my main, I have the chicken shish (£12.75) which is served with rice and salad, and it’s really tasty. The chicken is very succulent and flavoursome, and the portion size is decent without being overwhelming.
We thought:
This is a great, buzzy place to visit with an impressive menu to match. Throughout the evening there’s a constant stream of customers picking up takeaway orders too, so clearly Hattusa is the place to go.
The one downside is our table, which is near the door and means we’re hit with a cold breeze whenever it opens – but the workaround is a bottle of Turkish red wine to warm us instead.
I can see why Hattusa is so popular – the cool decor and friendly atmosphere makes it a great place to visit with friends or family, but be prepared to book – it gets busy!
