Fred Latty heads to the town’s historic High Street to sample this iconic London restaurant’s first Kent eatery
Set just a few minutes’ walk from The Pantiles, The Ivy Royal Tunbridge Wells offers sophisticated and friendly all-day dining to locals and visitors alike. The iconic London eatery’s first venture into Kent serves a range of British classics, including breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and cocktails.
I’ve been excited to go here ever since it opened on the High Street in November last year. With its wonderfully colourful and eye-catching interiors, complete with Art Deco flourishes and a wide range of beautiful artwork adorning the walls, I’m immediately captivated and can’t wait to sample the menu.
We had
I’m here for a hearty Sunday brunch with family, and opt for The Ivy Full English Breakfast (£13.50), which comes with smoked streaky bacon, a Cumberland herbed sausage and poached hen’s eggs, alongside black pudding, roast plum tomatoes, a grilled flat mushroom and baked beans, all served with a generous portion of gluten-free toast.
It may be among the more expensive items on the menu, but is utterly scrumptious and just the thing to start the day. Plus, if you like your coffee strong and full of flavour, this is certainly the place for you.
We thought
The service was fairly slow, and we had to ask to order our food, but otherwise The Ivy is a fabulous place and a wonderful dining experience. It’s well worth a visit if you’re feeling fancy and want to dress up in your Sunday best to celebrate those special occasions.
