THEO SANDELL is developing a reputation as a young rider to look out for as the Southborough & District Wheelers junior impressed again at the third Spring in the Park meeting at Cyclopark in Gravesend.
Sandell has now won all seven of his Under-10 races this season, including an overall win at the Primavera series at Lee Valley Velopark.
Wheelers have been enjoying success in local road racing events too. Competing in the Full Gas summer circuit series at Lee Valley, David Pettit finished 28th in a competitive race featuring 45 riders that was won by S. McMahon (Gemini BC).
In the fifth meeting of the Summer Series at Cyclopark, Keith Henderson finished seventh in the Cat E/1/2/3 race won by I. Pucci (Sigma Sport), with Torin Henderson (5th), Tim Johnston (13th), Cameron Preece (15th) and Tom Jones (20th) in the Cat 3/4 race.
The club was also well represented in 10-mile time trials with David Rumm recording a time of 21min 40sec in the Southern Counties Cycling Union event to finish second fastest and first Veteran overall. The winner of the race featuring 28 riders was P. Wright (Paceline RT) in 20.26.
Competing in a breezy Medway Velo CC 10-mile time trial on the Isle of Grain were Dave Millis (25.44), Martin Yardley (26.03), Colin Jarman (26.11), Natasha Jarman (28.04) and Mike Daniels (29.43). The winner was K. Tye (Velorefined.com) in 20.46 from a field of 56 riders.
In the Lewes Wanderers 30-mile time trial, taking place on a cold morning course near East Hoathly, both Matt Kuwertz (1hr 7min 9sec) and Neil Couchman (1:11.34) posted impressive times. Kuwertz finishing sixth overall in a race won by H. Shaw (Eastbourne Rovers).
Finally, Doug Bentall rode the High Wycombe 25-mile time trial, recording a time of 1:00.39.
