TONBRIDGE ANGELS were not only outplayed but also saw their keeper sent off for alleged violent conduct near the end of the game.
The Hawks used their experience and guile to take a big step towards the league title – although Bognor Regis Town still lead the table by a point.
The visitors needed the points to keep their play-off hopes alive but they allowed themselves to be outmuscled in most areas of the pitch.
Wes Fogden’s header hit the crossbar but that was only a temporary reprieve. On the half-hour a free-kick from the right was not dealt with and Theo Lewis placed the ball into an empty net.
Three minutes before half-time Andre McCollin launched a thunderbolt that the Havant keeper Ryan Young did well to deal with.
But it was an isolated moment of threat as the Hawks continued to dominate proceedings.
The hosts continued in the same vein in the second half but they still had to wait until the 83rd minute before they made the game safe.
Jonny Henly made an excellent double save from a free-kick but Fogden reacted fastest to the loose ball and smashed it into the net.
The big talking point came in the 85th minute with the dismissal of Henly with the referee’s assistant claiming he had kicked a Havant player.
It is believed a charge of violent conduct was made against Henly, and video evidence will be crucial in deciding whether to launch an appeal.
Manager Steve McKimm said: “We were second best, our passing wasn’t good enough and we failed to put them under any real sustained pressure. We will have a long, hard look at the video evidence with regard to Jonny’s dismissal.”
