TUNBRIDGE WELLS came away from Glebe’s Foxbury Avenue with a hard-earned point following a spirited rearguard action against a team featuring ex-Football League players in the shape of Jason Goodchild and Peter Sweeney.
Perry Spackman was commanding in defence and goalkeeper Jack Bradshaw produced several good stops to preserve his clean sheet.
Just after the half-hour Bradshaw saved well low to his left to foil Laurent Hamici, and he was called upon to thwart the same player five minutes before the interval.
Tunbridge Wells responded with shots from Tom Davey and Steven Ita but could not find the net.
Nine minutes into the second half Wells’ defence got in a tangle but Bradshaw came to their rescue again, pushing away another effort from Hamici.
Wells’ best chance came after 64 minutes when a free kick was only half-cleared to the feet of John Shea, whose first time shot crashed against the post; the follow-up from Ita was blocked.
Tunbridge Wells thus failed to make up ground on their fellow strugglers in Southern Counties East Premier Division.
They lie in 18th place, six points behind Glebe and three othe teams – though they still have a comfortable margin ahead of the bottom two.
The Wells now travel to Bearsted next Saturday (December 16, kick-off 3pm).
