THESE two sides were meeting for the second time in five days at Longmead but this time it was league points at stake.
During midweek, Angels had secured their place in the Ryman League Cup final with a 3-1 win against the Hamlet.
It seemed the sides knew too much about each other with the outcome that they cancelled each other out with few genuine chances.
Former Angel Nathan Green saw his cross almost diverted into his own goal by Sonny Miles. And on 26 minutes Dipo Akingyeah saw his header hit the Tonbridge crossbar.
On the right flank Hamlet’s Sanchez Ming was starting to see a lot of the ball and his crosses proved testing for the Angels goalkeeper Jonny Henly and his defenders.
The second half started with a great chance for Tonbridge to take the lead when Nicky Wheeler crossed for Alex Akrofi at the near post but the shot was mistimed.
From the resultant corner Mitchell Nelson was just wide at the back post with a header.
A long throw from Luke Blewden was back-headed by Nathan Elder but the Hamlet keeper just about held on to the ball.
Angels manager Steve McKimm was critical of his players’ performance during the first half: “We just weren’t good enough and bearing in mind we are now at the business end of the season I expect more effort.”
He added: “We improved in the second half and I’ve got to be pleased with the clean sheet.”
For the visitors, manager Gavin Rose said: “I’m a bit disappointed not to win especially as we had the better of the first half but all in all a draw was probably a fair result.”
