THE newly appointed Chairman of Tonbridge Angels, Roger Maddams, has had to step down after just 20 days in the post.
After being elected unanimously by the board last month, the chartered accountant, who works in the housing sector, has undertaken a workload that involves substantial travelling.
Mr Maddams has decided he would not be able to devote the time necessary to carry out the many duties and responsibilities of the position.
He said: “Since New Year my workload has increased to the extent that to try and juggle the multiple responsibilities at the club with my own occupation as it now stands, quite simply would not work and it is with great regret that I have no alternative but to step aside.”
Outgoing Chairman Steve Churcher returns on an interim basis.
Vice Chairman Chris Drew said: “We are very sorry to see a person of Roger’s ability having to stand down but fully understand and accept his reasons for so doing.
“Although only on the board for a few months he had already shown great aptitude in commercial and event planning and hopefully we will be able to continue to make use of his skills.”
A club spokesman added: “Owners and supporters at the club should rest assured that the various initiatives outlined at the owners’ AGM will continue to be driven forward with vigour by the directors, including celebrations for the Platinum Season, the three-year business plan with its blueprint to increase attendances, and a programme of exciting events drawing the club closer to the community it serves.”
