A TALENTED midfielder from Tunbridge Wells, Sammie McLeod, has been recruited by the Premier League champions Leicester City.
Sammie (pictured), who has just turned 17 and lives in Tunbridge Wells, spent last week at the club’s King Power Stadium being put through his paces after signing a deal with the club.
He told the Times: “I’m so excited to get that professional contract after all the hard work I’ve put in, It’s my dream to be a pro footballer.”
The central midfielder, who went to Hayesbrook School until he was 11, now attends Maidstone Academy.
He forged his reputation playing for Maidstone United before signing recently for Tunbridge Wells along with fellow hopeful Rhys Bartlett.
Sammie revealed: “I was at Aston Villa in the summer and I thought I was on the verge of getting a contract but it didn’t go through.
“The Under-23 manager at Leicester was previously with Aston Villa. He knew me when I was at Villa on trial and was so shocked that I didn’t get a contract that he told the main man at Leicester to basically give me a trial and it went from there.”
