THE Rustics went goal crazy against Lydd Town at Jockey Farm Stadium to kickstart their league campaign in Southern Counties East League Division One.
It was an emphatic statement to make, having exited the FA Cup the previous weekend and drawn their first league match of the season.
The visitors started quite brightly and had a couple of early chances. But once Brad Large cut inside from the left and fired a shot into the net right-footed in the 12th minute, the flood gates opened for Rusthall. .
Two minutes later Luke Adams made it 2-0 with a delightful long-range lob over the goalkeeper and covering defender.
And two minutes after that, Louis Clarke effectively sealed the contest by scoring off the underside of the crossbar from outside the box.
With 23 minutes gone, Reuel Powell-Downey made it 4-0, sliding the ball past the keeper in clinical fashion.
Lydd huffed and puffed in the second half but Rusthall’s back line were rarely troubled, and the home side continued to create opportunities.
Eight minutes into the second half Stephen Camacho was next to get on the scoresheet, cutting inside and also fired in a shot off the underside of the bar.
With 15 minutes remaining Powell-Downey scored his second to round off the goal spree after good work from debutant Ben Boodle.
Rusthall’s next game is at home to SC Thamesmead on Bank Holiday Monday [August 26, kick-off 3pm].
