TUNBRIDGE WELLS produced one of their best performances of the season to beat local rivals Sevenoaks Town with a well taken goal from inspirational player Perry Spackman.
The result takes Wells into the last eight of the Kent Senior Trophy.
After the goalkeeping debacle against Whitstable last week – which saw coach Michal Czanner between the sticks and then having to go off injured with outfield player Tom Davey being forced to deputise – new signing Jack Bradshaw went straight into the side.
Sevenoaks looked like a team full of confidence with only one defeat in all competitions so far this season.
Wells gradually came into the game and came close when Jack Harris’s header rattled the Sevenoaks crossbar.
The home side should have taken the lead when young Tommy Lawrence put in a pinpoint cross that was met with a strong header from Harris but the Sevenoaks keeper but he pulled off an instinctive save.
Tunbridge Wells eventually opened the scoring after a well worked corner was scrambled off of the goalline only as far as the edge of the penalty area, where Spackman was waiting to rifle a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner.
Joe Nwoko went close near the end of the first half, and on 55 minutes an angled shot from Steven Ita went agonisingly close.
Sevenoaks worked hard to get back into the game but could not find a way through the commanding central defensive partnership of Davey and Spackman.
Tunbridge Wells’ next game is at home to Beckenham Town in the Southern Counties East Premier Division on Tuesday December 5 [7.45pm kick-off].
