A GOAL from reliable striker Andy Constable kept Rusthall’s promotion dream alive in their last home game of a remarkable season in Southern Counties East League Division One.
The contest was adversely affected by the strong winds and chances were few and far between.
Neither side created a clear-cut chance in a scrappy first half until the ball fell kindly to leading scorer Constable in the 45th minute. The veteran forward made no mistake from eight yards out.
The second half followed much the same pattern, which made for a nervy final 10 minutes as Meridian committed more players forward.
Rusthall now finish their season with three away games, the first of them at -promotion rivals
K Sports on Saturday. They lead by a point so if they win them all they are guaranteed promotion.
The Rustics have also seen a big increase in support at the Jockey Stadium this season with an average attendance of just over 100.
In the Premier Division, Tunbridge Wells lost 2-0 at home to Erith & Belvedere but they remain safely clear of the relegation zone.
