Tonbridge Angels Ladies 3 Castle Colts 1
TONBRIDGE ANGELS Ladies made sure of a top-two finish by defeating Castle Colts in their penultimate league game.
Angels had been beaten in the reverse fixture the previous week but grabbed the opportunity to exact immediate revenge.
The hosts made one of their trademark flying starts and went ahead within six minutes for the eighth time this season.
Charlotte Coulter and Becky Janes combined to set up Maisie Gibb, whose run on goal was timed perfectly and she finished coolly.
Gibb returned the favour for Janes on 17 minutes and the prolific striker finished with ease with only the keeper to beat.
Four minutes before half-time Colts reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a goal from Keeley Ashworth.
The midfielder repeated her trick of the previous week with a long shot from distance that beat Sam Wright in the Angels’ goal.
But Gibb restored the two-goal advantage 11 minutes into the second half to settle the nerves of the home side.
Tonbridge host champions Thamesview at Tonbridge Farm next Sunday (April 29, kick-off 2pm) before the two sides meet again in the Kent Divisional Cup Final on Thursday May 17 at Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadium.
