TUNBRIDGE WELLS put up a brave fight in the absence of four establishing first-team players but their London hosts proved strong for them at King’s College.
London Edwardians were in fourth place in the South Premier League, while Tunbridge Wells are battling hard to move up the table away from the relegation places.
The game started as an even contest with chances coming at both ends. James Harris in the Wells’ goal had to make a fine save early on from a penalty stroke.
But towards the end of the first half London Edwardians took the lead, scoring from the rebound at a short corner.
Wells continued to create chances after the break, and a short corner from Ben Allberry required a fine save from the home keeper.
The game’s key moment came soon after as the ball came off an Edwardians player’s chest before being slotted home, which was not spotted by the umpires.
To compound Wells’ frustration, keeper Harris received a temporary suspension after protesting about the incident.
The home side sneaked a further goal while Wells were a man down, and scored a fourth as the visitors pushed hard to get something from the game late on.
The tough matches keep coming for Wells, who now take on second-placed Spencer at Kent College on Saturday [March 2, 3pm start].
