Hockey: Spencer prove too strong for Tunbridge Wells

TUNBRIDGE WELLS were beaten at Kent College by a team who are riding high in second place in the South Premier League Division One.

They had narrowly lost the reverse fixture to a single late goal, and the hosts made a poor start, regularly giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

Spencer scored twice in the first period and could have been out of sight by half-time, but for the outstanding goalkeeping of James Harris.

The second half saw a much improved display from the home side, with Russell Self going close to scoring with an excellent effort.

But Spencer converted another chance to ensure they took all the points, showing once again how fine the margins are at this level.

Having been promoted last season, Wells are getting to know the areas where they will need to improve in the next campaign.

Wells are sitting in tenth as they prepare for another tough game in West London at Indian Gymkhana on Saturday [March 9, 2.30pm start].
