Hockey: Tunbridge Wells crumble as Folkestone go on counter-attack

FOLKESTONE always prove tough opposition for Wells and were sitting just below them in the East Region Division One South table.

Wells enjoyed the early pressure attacking down both flanks, and midway through the first half they converted a well-worked short corner.

Jen Hunt passed to Jemma Stephenson in space on the left, who had a shot and Bertie Organ deflected the ball neatly past the keeper.

But the momentum shifted and Folkestone scored three goals in quick succession from swift counter-attacks.

They came out a different side in the second half and scored early with a good attack on the right.

Player of the match Georgia Whitaker slipped a pass neatly back to Ana Glubb, who finished in the bottom left-hand corner.

A second goal quickly followed, this time down the left. Laura Blaxland passed to Hunt, who fed the ball quickly for Becky Bradbury to score.

With the score at 3-3 and five minutes remaining, the hosts again scored from a ruthless counter-attack, putting the game out of Wells’ reach despite their grit and determination.
