Hockey: Tunbridge Wells Ladies edged out again but keeper gets national call-up

Pam Mills

TUNBRIDGE WELLS Ladies slipped to their second narrow defeat in a row against Broxbourne at Hawkenbury.

Their unusual warm-up consisted of sweeping the snow off the astroturf to allow the game to go ahead.

The opposition were looking to secure top spot in East Region Division One South and they started strongly, coming at Wells from the off.

But the home side  were not fazed as they distributed the ball well and showed great composure.

They reached half-time without conceding but in the second half Broxbourne made the breakthrough.

Wells now play the final game of the season against Holcombe at Hawkenbury on Saturday (March 24, 1pm start).

Fab news for teenage keeper

Tunbridge Wells Ladies 2nd XI goalkeeper Fab Gnehm has been selected for the Austrian Under-21 squad after attending a training camp in Vienna. The 16-year-old is in her first season at the club and has been a star player in a campaign that has seen the Seconds achieve their highest ever East League position.  Captain Janet Whitaker said: “Fab has been awesome for us this season and I am delighted with the news.  She is a fantastic goalkeeper and her selection is well-deserved.”
