TUNBRIDGE WELLS Men overcame relegated Henley to record a powerful win in their penultimate fixture in South Premier League Division One at Kent College, Pembury.
The home side were sporting odd socks to show support for World Down Syndrome Day last week.
After enjoying the majority of the early possession, Wells made the breakthrough as Ben Allberry calmly fired a backhand shot into the bottom corner.
A second goal followed soon after, some good work down the right setting up Ben Brandt to fire home from close range at the second attempt.
With a composed defence Wells were able to withstand a somewhat physical onslaught at times from their opponents.
Ian Harvey went close to scoring, then sustained pressure saw Allberry pick out Russell Self at the back post from a well-worked penalty corner and he put the visitors three up at the interval.
The second half started in much the same vein, Connor Poulain running the show in midfield with support from Simon Hare.
Another goal for Allberry and one from Cameron Green saw the hosts cruising to victory at 5-0 with ten minutes left.
As the home side experimented with changes in the closing stages, the visitors exploited these to score twice in quick succession.
Wells will be looking to finish in style after a difficult campaign following their promotion.
They host Banbury at Kent College on Saturday [March 30, 3pm start].
THREE MEN’S TEAMS GO UP
Tunbridge Wells Men’s Second XI completed their campaign as unbeaten champions in Kent Division Two with a 3-0 win at Old Williamsonians 2nd XI.
The Thirds beat Old Williamsonians 2nds and, while the Vets slipped up at Herne Bay, these sides have secured a League one-two in Kent Open Premier B, meaning three of the four top sides have been promoted.
Tunbridge Wells Ladies completed their league programme with a 3-2 defeat against Maidstone 1st XI after leading for much of their game – their opponents won promotion as a result of their fightback. The 3rd XI drew 1-1 with Blackheath 2nds to finish with an excellent third place in Kent Division Two.
