DESPITE sitting at the top of the league, Tunbridge Wells knew their hosts would match them throughout the pitch. They hoped that superior tactics would bring them victory.
Good marking meant Eastbourne had few opportunities from the back. This pressing was what led to the first goal, when Callum Hunter calmly slotted the ball home.
Wells continued to play beautiful hockey. Continual movement, combined with clinical passing from David Judge and Simon Hare, meant they were applying constant pressure.
From an Eastbourne short corner Kyle Mathieson ran down the flicker and quickly passed out to Jack Garwood on the left.
A quick interchange along the sideline found Wood unmarked at the top of the D, and he bagged his second with a shot that flew into the net.
Eastbourne came out with more desire in the second half and created more chances.
Having had several short corners saved by James Harris in the Wells goal, the hosts eventually reduced the arrears to 2-1.
Wanting to ensure they took one step closer to promotion, Wells picked up the pace once more and a goal from Ben Allberry ensured the win.
Tunbridge Wells now only require one win in the last three matches to secure the title in Kent and Sussex Regional Division One.
