Tunbridge Wells trio The Bay Rays played their first festival gig at Glastonbury last month. Here they tell us how it went and why they’re looking forward to playing this weekend’s Leefest
So how was your set at Glastonbury?
Apart from Anthus having trouble with his bass amp two minutes before we were meant to go on, it went really well. As soon as we started the first track of our 25-minute set everything just seemed to click into place.
Did it exceed all your expectations?
Most definitely. It took us quite some time to come down from the high of playing after we finished our set. It was such an amazing experience.
How many people came to see you?
We managed to get a decent crowd of a few hundred people despite the fact we were closing the stage on the last day of the festival and the whole site was a complete mud bath!
What was the rest of your festival experience like?
We arrived around midday on Saturday, got our tents set up and then went off to explore. We spent a lot of time at the Pyramid Stage watching Tame Impala and The Last Shadow Puppets, who were both really good. The biggest surprise was watching Adele. We’re not really big fans of hers but we ended up staying for her whole set – she completely blew us away.
What are you looking forward to most about performing at Leefest?
Playing to a home crowd!
What’s next for the Bay Rays?
We are currently in the studio with Jolyon Thomas working on our debut EP. With everything going on in the world at the moment it feels like there is a lot to write about.
The Bay Ray’s EP will be released on their own record label later this year to coincide with a 24-date UK tour throughout September and October, which will be the biggest tour they have done
