Rugby: Late try by Jackson gives Tonbridge Juddians well-deserved victory

TONBRIDGE JUDDIANS produced one of their best performances of the season to overturn the form book and beat visitors Taunton, who were sitting pretty in third place in National Two South.

Taunton opened the scoring with a penalty and then opened up a 10-point lead with a try but TJs rallied impressively from that demoralising start.

Duncan Tout crashed through the middle to feed Finlay Coxon-Smith, who stepped out of the last tackle to score in the corner. Liam Prescott converted from the touchline to make it 7-10 at the break.

In the second half Taunton scored another try to go 7-15 in front but TJs responded again through Alex Reid, who dotted down after good approach work by the forwards.

Prescott sent Tout through the hole and he offloaded for George Lawson to crash over. Prescott converted to take a 19-15 lead with five minutes left.

But Taunton hit straight back, their right wing scything through the field to go over from 60 metres out and put the Titans back in front.

TJs pummelled the Titan line and a sudden switch to the right saw hooker Ryan Jackson out on the right cross over to clinch victory and maximum points.

Tonbridge lie in 10th place in the table and go to Canterbury for an all-Kent clash on Saturday (December 23, kick-off 3pm).
