VIDEOMakeover shows were staple TV in the early 2000s, with Queer Eye a big-hitter alongside the likes of Trinny and Susannah and a whole host of 60 Minute Makeover -esque shows. Not content to let the genre die, Netflix has deemed it time for the return of the show with a brand new and youthful ‘Fab Five’: five gay men on a mission to makeover the lives of the downtrodden. We’ll be honest, we were sceptical that the world was ready, but after digging in, we’re convinced that their timing was spot-on.
Each of the five hosts target specific areas of the lives of the men they hope to revolutionise. Antoni Porowski has made it his mission to overhaul diet, Bobby Berk will work magic with humble homes, Jonathan Van Ness is the grooming guru, Tan France has a flair for fashion and Karamo Brown is mysteriously tasked with improving ‘culture’.
This is true American reality TV: bright, brash and loud, but frankly we’d be disappointed if it were any different. If the Kardashians make your blood boil, this probably isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for something with a message that is positive and uplifting, there’s no drama to be found here and you’ll quickly get carried away with each of the personalities that lead the show.
