Gillie Pope and Liz Scholey have been running adult dance classes in and around Tunbridge Wells for over twenty years as Pink Cadillacs Line and Solo Dance.
Gillie and Liz started teaching line dancing in May 1996 when it suddenly hit the UK big time and was very popular with the masses.
Although both were already qualified instructors in either dance or fitness, they studied for, and achieved, an up-to-date accreditation with the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing).
They are very keen to always update their skills and learn about new dance forms. When attending the annual Move It dance exhibition in March, they saw that a class was being run by Darcey Bussell on her new exercise programme DDMIX (Diverse Dance Mix). Intrigued, they booked for the class. After the session, Darcey advised she was recruiting for teachers to train and teach DDMIX. Gillie and Liz booked on a teacher training course straightaway and attended this in May, achieving the teachers’ qualification.
DDMIX is a new dance form designed to get everyone moving and active whilst embracing a broad spectrum of dancing cultures from around the world or from different decades. It has been devised by Darcey in association with choreographer, Nathan Clarke.
Gillie and Liz’s class on 21st September will be the first DDMIX class ever to be run on a regular basis in Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area. It is hoped that this class will attract new dancers, as well as many of those who attend their other dance classes. If it proves as popular as expected, they hope to expand to run a weekday evening class too.
Classes start this Wednesday, 21st September. For information, please contact Gillie on 07778733706 or Liz on 07738709080. Â
