Rugby: Play-offs hopes are out of Wells’ hands

TUNBRIDGE WELLS’ London One South match against Gravesend fell foul of the cold snap last weekend and will now be played on February 4.

This was particularly frustrating as Wells were keen to bounce back from the disappointing defeat at Havant in the previous week, which put the hopes of a promotion play-off place out of their hands.

What they must do now is try to win all their remaining fixtures and hope their Hampshire rivals slip up somewhere along the line.

This Saturday sees Wells travel to west London to play at Chiswick for the first time in the club’s history.

The hosts sit 11th in the league and went down to a surprise 25-15 defeat at previously winless Gosport & Fareham at the weekend.

The teams met at St Marks back in October with the home team prevailing 46-18. But the victory was not as comfortable as the scoreline might suggest, with three late tries allowing the points tally to climb.
