ON THE back of another excellent season for Tunbridge Wells, three of their players were included in the Kent squad for this year’s Bill Beaumont First Division County Championship.
Young half-backs Frank Reynolds and Chas Spence were called up at the start of the week and No 8 Nick Doherty was added to the senior squad having impressed the selectors in the game against Maidstone.
Spence, 21, has been captaining the side while skipper Lee Campion recovered from injury. He is a product of Wells’ junior set-up and the scrum-half possesses real pace and energy.
He and Reynolds combined so well in last year’s Kent Under-20 side that the latter was determined to continue the partnership and joined Wells at the start of this campaign.
Reynolds, just 19, combines his rugby with local dairy farming, and is reliable with the boot as well as showing his flair at fly-half.
He is one of eight Kent players called up for national trials to select the England Under-20 Counties side.
Nick Doherty, 25, has been the form player for Wells over the last few weeks. He is also a product of the Wells juniors, joining his brother Mike in the first team five seasons ago.
He has an unerring ability to break the gain line with high quality handling skills and physical strength.
The competition will be played next month and Kent kick-off on May 6 against Hertfordshire at Charlton Park. They play Surrey at Dorking on May 13 and Devon at Barnstaple on May 20.
