TONBRIDGE Juddians Under-17s followed up last weekend’s impressive victory over London Irish in the U17 National Cup with a 19-11 win over Westcombe Park in the Kent Cup semi-final.
With the Kent League already secured, the win kept TJs on track for the treble.
TJs started well, maintaining -possession and building phases, and Guy Kennedy crashed over to give them an early lead.
But the hosts slotted two penalties to take a 6-5 lead, and a Combe try followed 10 minutes before half-time.
In the second half Bobby Bratton’s try and James Gardner’s conversion put TJs back in front at 12-11.
As in the first half the wind played an important part and Combe found themselves penned in.
Despite their brave defence, Juddians scored the all-important third try to stretch their lead -courtesy of Tom Kendrick. Gardner converted to see TJs comfortably home.
TJs play now Old Elthamians in the Kent Cup Final at Ashford on Sunday April 2 as they attempt to win their second Kent League and Cup double in three years.
Before that they face Finchley in the National Cup quarter-final this Sunday.
