This weekend foodie fans are invited to Market Square in the town to enjoy two days of specialist food shopping, fabulous feasting and live music courtesy of A Taste of Tunbridge Wells. The free-to-attend event is being put on by the collective behind the town’s twice monthly farmers’ market which relocated there from its original Civic Way site in March.
“Due to the success of the new market we wanted to expand on this and create an event which would involve the whole community,” explains Jo Jeffrey of Naked & Ready Foods who co-runs the market along with fellow traders Paul Saxby and Morag Hopkin.
“We also wanted to involve nearby restaurants located in and around Camden Road in order to promote the whole area, not just our market, as it’s a great spot for interesting places to eat.
“We see A Taste of Tunbridge Wells as an opportunity for local food producers, restaurants, food outlets and bars to show case their produce, food menus or drinks to a wider audience. We are encouraging businesses to have a taster menu so it will be a real celebration of what Tunbridge
Wells has to offer.”
Restaurants participating in the food and drink special event include The Giggling Squid, St John’s Yard, Il Vesuvio, Sankey’s and The Guinea Butt who will all have a presence at the market serving up tasty treats from their restaurant menus. Fuggles will also have a presence serving a selection of beers and wines.
But that’s not all. In addition to the delicious food and drink, Paul Dunton has organised a bill of live music so as you shop and savour you can listen to an array of talented musicians play. Why did Jo and co think that music was an essential ingredient for their food festival?
“We have a huge local music scene so we thought why not complement great food with some great music?”
Seems like an idea recipe for success to us too . . .

A Taste of Tunbridge Wells runs from 10am til 6pm on Saturday and 10am til 4pm on Sunday and takes place at Market Square, just behind Royal Victoria Place.
