Sevenoaks Bookshop has announced that later this month, it will host an event with bestselling author Philip Pullman, following a nationwide competition to win a visit from the author during Independent Bookshop Week.
The bookshop is one of just three independent bookshops hosting an event with the author, whose novels include The Amber Spyglass and The Golden Compass.
The exclusive event willtake place on June 21, and is by invitation only, with school librarians from a selection of local schools offered tickets to attend with a pupil of their choosing.
To mark the special occasion, Sevenoaks Bookshop has commissioned personalised bookplates for all attendees, to be designed by local illustrator Katharine McEwen.Guests will also be given a special certificate of attendance designed by the illustrator as a keepsake. Sugared pastry in the shape of objects from La Belle Savage will also be served during the evening.
Children’s author Katherine Woodfine, writer of The Sinclair’s Mysteries and presenter of radio show Down The Rabbit Hole, will host the evening. Children attending will be given the opportunity to submit questions for Pullman in advance. The evening will be photographed and recorded, with recordings of the evening available to all attending schools for use as a classroom resource.
