Only Guildford in Surrey (176) and Reading (137) have more streets where the homes cost in excess of a million, according to research by Zoopla, which ranked the top ten towns outside of London.

Tunbridge Wells didn’t make the top ten, although other towns that did included Harpenden in Hertfordshire (115), Altrincham in Greater Manchester (105) and Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire (98). London has the most million pound streets in the UK.

So what does £10million buy you in this area?

ONE of the most expensive properties on the market in the area is a Grade II listed stucco country house.

Ashurst Manor near Fordcombe in Tunbridge Wells is up for sale for £10million. The Georgian/Regency mansion sits in the in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the civil parish of Penshurst, around seven miles from Tunbridge Wells and used to belong to Lord Wykeham Stanley Cornwallis, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent who died in 1982.

Savills estate agents who are selling the property say its boasts over 96 acres of land, two gyms and 11,532sq ft of accommodation, including a dog room.

Robert Jacobs, property agent, said: “For me this grand, yet comfortable house really has it all, with a fine classical look and an abundance of style and set just a short distance outside of town, in a beautiful semi-rural setting.

“A big plus is the convenient location for both trains and schools, which is key for lots of buyers, as is the 96 acres of land securing ownership of the stunning view, all the way down to the road.”
