If you’re a keen photographer and love nature then read on to find out how you can enter a very special competition organised by Tonbridge School
At the start of this month the team at the Old Big School Gallery – known simply as the OBS – at Tonbridge School launched a Wildlife Photographer competition. Running until September 10 it is open to both amateur and professional photographers and there are three categories: Children (under 11), Junior (12-17) and Adult (18+).
Each entrant can enter up to two photographs for the competition and the winners will be announced on September 30 in the OBS Gallery.
“We want to see everyone’s experience of the wild,” explains Emily Glass, the exhibition’s curator. “From sparrows having a dust bath to elephants in the wildlife park, from the fox that sidles through the garden to the badger finding peanut butter on a badger spotting evening.”
Emily says that the idea behind the exhibition is simply ‘what does wildlife mean today for people in Kent’?
“Photography is now more accessible than ever, and some of the most powerful images have been captured by people happening upon events in the wild with mobile phones or tablets.
“At the other end of the scale, digital cameras allow us even greater ranges of night visibility, long distance vision and wireless photography, making animals and their secret lives even more accessible. The images draw our attention to the beauty of the natural world while also raising awareness about its fragility.”
First prize in each category is a top of the range digital camera courtesy of Pantiles Cameras and other prizes include a mini break at Elmley Nature Reserve, membership of the Kent Wildlife Trust, art materials and Recre8 photography courses.
