The Bank Holiday weekend began with an impressive 2-0 victory at Margate. Tom Beere opened the scoring after 27 minutes, robbing a defender to beat goalkeeper Henry Newcombe from 15 yards.
The visitors came out strongly after the interval and Alex Read scored their second in the 48th minute, running on to a header and slotting the ball past Newcombe.
There followed a flurry of chances for a frustrated Margate, but the Angels’ impressive defence remained resolute and held out.
Returning to the coast on Monday, Tonbridge kept another clean sheet in beating Folkestone Invicta 1-0.
The only goal came in the 14th minute. A corner from Joe Turner ran through to Sonny Miles, whose shot went in through a forest of legs.
Folkestone’s Sam Hasler was sent off for what appeared to be an intentional elbow on Beere.
Manager Steve McKimm said: “I’m very pleased and proud of the lads.
“We have a really tough couple of matches this weekend and Margate are a very good side, so I’m over the moon with the results.”
“We were strong, organised and passed the ball around well, and we got some quality goals as a result.”
