THE Tunbridge Wells Churches Table Tennis League has gone from strength to strength this season and is looking to expand further.
The league comprises 14 teams from seven different local churches forming two divisions.
The First Division title went to St John’s A, with St Matthew’s A finishing as runners-up.
The Second Division was won convincingly by St James’ A, with a young St Peter’s in second.
The end-of-season dinner at Wood’s Restaurant saw trophies awarded to the captains and prizes for the winners of the handicap tournament.
Chris Williams of St James’ won the prestigious Open Singles trophy after a close final against Redfern Hicks of St John’s.
The Plate was won by Kalin Marinov, who beat his brother Emil in the final – both from
St John’s church.
Ross Bennett of St James’ and Henry Wakely of St Peter’s teamed up to take the Drawn Doubles title, a new event twhere pairs are drawn together at random. They beat Alex Wakely of
St Peter’s and Kalin Marinov in the final.
The league’s steering committee has set the ambitious goal of fielding 18 teams across three divisions next season and are seeking more churches and players.
