Why honesty really is the best policy for Thackeray’s

Why honesty really is the best policy for Thackeray's

Thackeray’s has long been thought of as one of the South East’s finest restaurants. Its quality culinary offering has gained it Michelin stars over the years as well as numerous AA rosettes, not to mention a very loyal and ever-growing clientele.

But it has never been one to rest on its laurels, and is constantly upping the ante in order to retain its well-deserved reputation as a purveyor who serves delicious, inventive, first-class food.

Opened in 2001 by Richard Phillips, who trained under the famous Roux brothers, Thackeray’s is located within the former Tunbridge Wells home of novelist William Makepeace Thackeray, just off the London Road, and prides itself on offering diners a wealth of epicurean experiences.

Just last month it introduced a limited edition ‘Honesty’ menu, which Richard describes as a ‘menu without boundaries’ – and he and his Head Chef, Patrick Hill, hope it will make dining ‘fun, exciting and intriguing’ for customers.

The five-course set menu, which showcases the restaurant’s famous culinary innovation using only the finest produce, has already been hugely popular, given the number of diners who have already enjoyed tasting it. So what else can Richard tell us about it?

“The Honesty Menu is exactly what it says, it has no price. We simply ask that you leave what it meant to you!” he replies. “It’s been going extremely well, and the feedback has been overwhelming. Our guests are loving the interaction from the chefs and the elements of surprise throughout their meal,” continues Richard.

He goes on to say that he gave Patrick Hill a simple brief, which was to create ‘a menu, with no boundaries’ and to ‘keep changing the offering’.

“He’s been having a lot of fun!” laughs Richard. “We’ve had interest and reviews pouring in from national restaurant critics as well as a lot of local interest and word-of-mouth business. We are now booked up until the middle of March, so if people still wish to book they need to hurry as will be coming to an end soon.”

So, if you want a top class dining experience with a difference, you know where to go. Bon appétit!

The Honesty Menu must be booked directly with Thackeray’s in advance quoting ‘HONESTY’. There is very limited availability and exclusions and exceptions apply. Bookings can be made until mid-March from Tuesday-Friday, 6.30-10.30pm. For more information, visit thackerays-restaurant.co.uk
