Women’s football: Prolific Skilton breaks Angels’ away hoodoo

Premier Inn Tunbridge Wells

ANGELS Ladies banished their 2016 away hoodoo in style with their best performance of the season in a convincing 5-1 victory at Anchorians Development.

Tonbridge took the lead after 16 minutes when a through ball from Jodie Coombes released Abigail Skilton, who shot firmly past the goalkeeper.

Three minutes later the lead was -doubled when skipper Beth Kemp scored a fine solo goal, curling a shot past the keeper from the edge of the area.

A three-goal cushion was secured before half-time with Courtney Smith both starting an attacking move and -completing it with a cool finish.

In the second half, substitute Megan Akehurst showed her prowess in front of goal, lashing a shot against the underside of the bar with the referee adjudicating that the ball had not crossed the line.

A shot from distance by the home side dipped into the top corner after 76 minutes. But Skilton grabbed her second of the match – and 19th goal of the season – with two minutes left to ensure victory.

In injury time, Becky Saxby hit a looping cross from wide on the right which sailed over everyone and dropped into the net.
