TUNBRIDGE WELLS Ladies 1st XI travelled to the Olympic Park and Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre to record a valuable win in their return encounter against Crostyx.

The game proved an exciting nailbiter from start to finish. Crostyx and Tunbridge Wells had a multitude of attempts on goal, with Wells’ keeper Ali Playle pulling off some ninja-like saves, ably supported by her right back, Ollie Gerrett, who blocked some shots on the line.

Both sets of forwards were working hard but by half-time neither team had managed to find the backboard.

In the second half the visitors’ momentum kept building as they looked to take advantage of the flagging home side.

With two minutes left on the clock, captain Jen Hunt threaded a ball through to Nelia Bekker in the D, and her rebounded shot was acrobatically fired into the top right corner by Becky Bradbury in a tense finish.

The impressive win put Wells in fourth place going into the mid-season break.
