More than 1600 runners took part in the 33rd Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon on Sunday in a race which saw Dame Kelly Holmes make a last minute decision to join in.
The double gold Olympic runner only decided to participate after she had already fired the starting gun, setting off seven minutes into the race.
However, while the famous athlete’s time was not recorded, there was one undisputed winner of the race, New Zealander Paul Martelletti.
Mr Martelletti, who holds the world record for running the fastest London Marathon dressed as a superhero, completed the 13 mile run in 68:30.
The fastest female was Maria Heslop, with a time of 1:23:41.
Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells hospital was the main sponsor of the event and contributed a range of expert services to support the 1,675 runners.
One of the key organisers was Physiotherapist Pru Clements, a member of the Tunbridge Wells Harriers running club, who was delighted her employer decided to sponsor the event.
Success
She said: “I knew it would be a fantastic thing for us to support, as we could provide so many different and complementary areas of expertise to help make the race the best ever for the runners.
“I have been overwhelmed at how much support my colleagues have given and how generous they have been with their time and enthusiasm.
“As someone with a foot in both Nuffield Health and TW Harriers, I would say it’s been a huge success all round.”
