An ‘academically talented’ teenager has been awarded the Skinners’ School’s prize for ‘excellence’ in science, technology and mathematics (STEM).
Alexander Galpin, a 15-year-old from Crowborough, who intends to study IT and design technology for A levels, won a trophy, £50 and a £50 book token.
Skinners’ head Ed Wesson said: “One particularly innovative aspect of Skinners’ curriculum is its teaching of STEM as a specific subject in its own right.
“Alex is an academically talented young man, with a particular strength in product design, a subject he is studying at GCSE. He hopes to pursue a career in design or ICT.”
The teenager also took part in the Kent Young Chef competition finals in 2014 and has reached the final again this year.
The prize is sponsored by Tonbridge-based housebuilder Millwood Designer Homes, as part of an ‘encouragement pack’ initiative it runs with a number of schools in Kent and East Sussex.
