All change as Mead head announces her replacement

THE Headmistress of The Mead School on Frant Road will be stepping down at the end of the summer term after 30 years at the helm.

Angela Culley, who founded the independent primary school at its current site in 1987, will be replaced by Andrew Webster, the current deputy of Daneshill Prep School in Hampshire.

Described as the ‘stand out candidate’ among a strong field, Mr Webster was selected due to his focus on supporting and challenging every child to be the best of their ability.

Commenting on his appointment, the married father of two said: “I feel privileged to become only the second head teacher of such a reputable and thriving prep school.

“Within moments of my first visit, I sensed the unique warmth and comradery built into the fabric of The Mead and I was hooked.

“My family and I are very much looking forward to joining such a wonderful community and I’m thrilled to be at the helm as The Mead moves into an exciting new era.”

Congratulating her replacement on securing the position, Mrs Culley said: “We had a brilliant field of candidates, but in Andrew we have found someone who really understands the school’s ethos and I feel absolutely confident entrusting him with the future of The Mead.”

After stepping down Mrs Culley will sit on the advisory board of Wishford Schools, a family-run group of independent prep schools which The Mead joined in March.
