Unemployment levels in Tunbridge Wells have remained the lowest in Kent – standing at 0.6 per cent.
A total of 415 people in the borough were claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in December 2015, compared to 450 in May.
Youth unemployment emerged as being particularly low, with only five people aged 18-24 claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance for a period of more than 12 months.
The area’s results were far more positive than some areas of the county, as Kent recorded an overall 2 per cent increase in unemployment, by 255 to 13,325 people.
Meanwhile, the fall in long-term unemployment figures in Wealden were welcomed by MP Nus Ghani.
In December 2015, 407 people claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance, with just 70 people claiming for more than a year. Youth unemployment was also low, with only 90 of the 407 between 18 and 24.
Ms Ghani said: “We must be thankful for our brilliant small businesses, from high street shops to farms to professional services, because it is they who actually create these jobs.”
