Arrests made in Tunbridge Wells following pre-lockdown abuse to police officers
Police officers were called to Tunbridge Wells last night after large crowds became abusive

Police were called to the centre of Tunbridge Wells yesterday evening (November 4) after large crowds of people gathered in order to ‘celebrate their last night of freedom’ before England went into a second lockdown following the rise in coronavirus infection rates. The lockdown is due to end on December 2.

A Kent Police spokesperson told the Times today that ‘officers were on patrol in the centre of Tunbridge Wells, where concerns had been raised around the gathering of large crowds of people.’

They added: “At around 10pm, a 21-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. He was later issued a penalty notice and released from custody.

“It is reported that during his arrest, officers received verbal abuse from a number of onlookers, who were also acting in an aggressive manner. A 17-year-old girl from Tunbridge Wells was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.”

The spokesperson said the girl was then bailed and will return to a police station later today (November 5)
