INCOME at The Assembly Hall Theatre was £159,000 better than expected last year, according to new figures.
But Tunbridge Wells Borough Council still needed to pay £86,000 more than they had budgeted, as bad weather and additional show costs hit the theatre.
The Town Hall said the theatre ended the year with an income of £2.5million.
A spokesman from the council’s finance department said: ‘While income at the Assembly Hall Theatre was £159,000 better than expected, there were additional show costs and the impact of the adverse weather, which resulted in the overall subsidy being £86,000 higher than budgeted.
‘This was funded by underspends across the council.’
