The Black Cat Brewery owners Paul and Kate ÂWratten received an award at the end of last month for serving up the best beer in the Spa Valley Railway Real Ale Festival.
The event is run in association with the West Kent Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Appropriately, Black Cat began brewing in Groombridge – one of the stations on the line – in 2011 in the garage of an airline pilot, but he sold the business to the Wrattens in 2014.
They moved the brewery to Palehouse Common near Uckfield, where they set up a larger facility with a view to expanding the business.
They provided four different brews, Original, Crossale, Hopsmack and Nine Tails, for CAMRA members to sample.
The Spa Valley Railway Real Ale Festival and Autumn Diesel Gala takes place on October 21-23. This year it will offer more than 125 real ales and 30 ciders and perrys. There are bars at three stations and on two trains throughout the weekend.
