Calverley Grounds ice rink tipped for record ticket sales

Skaters are taking to the ice with the popular rink inside Calverley Grounds now open for its seventh season.

Over the next month more than 35,000 people are expected to enjoy the rink, now considered one of the ‘best-loved attractions’ in Tunbridge Wells.

Deputy Mayor Len Horwood declared it open on Friday (November 17) at a launch event that included Tunbridge Wells Rock Choir.

Local musicians are lined up for future weeks as part of a partnership with the Forum.

There were also performances on ice from the Gillingham Silver Blades Skating Team and Canterbury Hellfire Wheelchair Rugby Team – in what was considered a UK first.

The Assembly Hall operate the rink and Antony Pickthall, sales and marketing director, said: “It was a fantastic evening’s entertainment and was really buzzing.”

He’s hoping ticket sales could approach 40,000 this year to set a new record: “Bookings are strong and way ahead of the figure at this point in previous years.”

The rink is open every day, except Christmas Day, until New Year’s Day.

Bookings are in one hour sessions which run from 11am to 8pm. This will change to 6pm on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Parent and toddler sessions are daily at 9.45am and 10.15am and last half an hour.

Including the cost of skate hire, it is £14 per session for adults aged 16 and over, £9.50 for children aged four to 15 and £5 for holders of a GO card.

Bookings can be made online at www.tunbridgewellsatchristmas.com or by calling (01892) 530613
